Salla, Zid or Shopify? How to choose your platform

Feature lists do not settle this. Three questions do: where your customers are, how big your catalogue is, and how you ship.

The question we get most before any project starts. The honest answer is that it does not depend on which platform is "better", but on three questions about your business.

Where are your customers?

If they are inside Saudi Arabia, Salla and Zid give you mada, Apple Pay, BNPL and e-invoicing through the platform app store — configuration, not development. On Shopify you need a third-party gateway for mada and an external app for e-invoicing. If you sell across borders or in several currencies, Shopify wins clearly.

How large is your catalogue?

A store with fifty products and one warehouse will not feel any difference between Salla and Zid. But if you run thousands of SKUs across warehouses and branches with an ops team that needs permissions and regular stocktaking, Zid's inventory tooling is deeper.

How do you ship?

Domestic shipping through approved Saudi carriers is ready in Salla and Zid via apps. Multi-region international shipping is considerably easier on Shopify.

What about design?

Not a real differentiator. All three allow a fully custom theme — the difference is technical, not visual: Salla and Zid themes are built with platform tooling, Shopify themes in Liquid.

The practical summary

  • Salla: first launch, Saudi customers, live in days.
  • Zid: established brand, heavy operations, multiple warehouses.
  • Shopify: selling outside Saudi Arabia, multi-currency and multi-language.

One caution: the platform subscription is paid to the platform directly and is separate from what the agency charges. Ask for both numbers separately before comparing quotes.
