Connecting your domain: steps and common DNS mistakes

Your own domain is not a luxury — it separates a serious store from a subdomain link.

5 min read

A customer who sees a long subdomain instead of your brand name hesitates before entering card details. Connecting a domain is the first practical step toward trust.

Before buying: choosing the name

Pick something short that is easy to say and to spell after hearing it. Avoid hyphens and digits. .com is the most widely accepted; .sa gives a clear local signal but requires commercial registration.

The connection steps

  1. Add the domain in the domain settings of your dashboard.
  2. Copy the DNS records the platform gives you.
  3. Add those records, exactly as given, at your domain provider.
  4. Wait for propagation — minutes to 48 hours.

Mistakes that break the connection

  • Leaving old records pointing at previous hosting alongside the new ones.
  • Adding the www version and forgetting the bare one, or the reverse.
  • Judging the result after a few minutes — propagation takes time.
  • Forgetting email on the domain, so store mail arrives from a generic address.

Immediately after connecting

Confirm SSL is active and that the non-www version redirects to a single canonical version. Two versions serving at once produces duplicate content that confuses search engines.
