Promotional offers and bundles: raising basket size without cutting price

"Buy two and get…" beats "20% off" because it sells more rather than selling cheaper.

A discount reduces what you collect on the same quantity. A good offer raises quantity at roughly the same margin. The difference is fundamental.

Offer types that work in retail

  • Buy 2, third at half price: lifts quantity and clears stock.
  • A curated bundle: products used together, slightly below their combined price.
  • A gift above a threshold: low-cost, high-perceived-value item.
  • Free shipping above a threshold: the simplest offer and the most effective on basket size.

Build bundles on real behaviour

Review your orders: which products are genuinely bought together? A data-built bundle sells; a hunch-built bundle sits in the warehouse.

State the benefit in money

"Save 45 SAR" is clearer than "bundle discount". Customers need to see the amount, not the percentage.

Set an end date

A permanent offer stops being an offer. End it on schedule even when it is working — scarcity is part of why it works.

Beware stacking

A product offer, a cart coupon and free shipping can land on one order and produce a negative margin. Define plainly what stacks and what does not.
