Enabling every available payment method looks like a safe decision, but each one carries a fee, a setup and ongoing monitoring. Better to start with what your market actually uses.
The essentials for a Saudi store
- mada: the most widely held local card. A store without it loses a large share of customers.
- Apple Pay: high mobile usage, and it visibly shortens checkout.
- Visa and Mastercard: for credit cards and customers outside Saudi Arabia.
What can be added later
STC Pay and other digital wallets are good additions but not launch requirements. Add them when you see real demand in customer conversations.
Cash on delivery: double-edged
It raises orders and cancellations together. If you enable it, cap the order value, exclude remote regions, and watch the refusal-on-delivery rate — past a reasonable threshold the cost exceeds the return.
Mind the transaction fee
Every gateway takes a percentage of each order. This is a permanent operating cost affecting margin on every sale — build it into pricing rather than treating it as an incidental.
Test before launch and after every change
Run a real purchase through every enabled method. A method appearing in settings does not guarantee it works from a customer's device.
