Your store homepage: what earns its place and what to delete

A homepage is not a gallery. It is a shorter route to the right product.

6 min read

Most homepages are crowded because every section seemed like a good idea when it was added. The result is a long page a visitor scrolls past without reaching a product.

The order that works

  1. One clear banner: saying what you sell and for whom, not a generic slogan.
  2. Main categories: the fastest route for someone who knows what they want.
  3. Best sellers: social proof and a decision shortcut at once.
  4. Trust elements: shipping, returns, payment methods.
  5. New or seasonal: if you genuinely have something new.

What to delete

  • A slider with five slides — visitors usually see only the first.
  • "Welcome to our store" text that adds no information.
  • Product sections with identical contents under different headings.
  • Motion and effects that delay content appearing.

Test on mobile first

Open the page on your phone and count how many scrolls it takes to reach the first product. More than two means your banner is taller than it should be.

How to judge any section

Ask: does this move the visitor closer to a product? If not, delete it. Empty space beats a section with no job.
